Akurey on the slipway

Brim’s fresher trawler Akurey’s fishing activity for this quota year is finished. The trawler docked in Reykjavík Monday morning and will be taken out of the water and onto the slipway when the catch has been landed.

According to skipper Eiríkur Jónsson the last trip of this quota year was a short one. This is reflected in the catch, which was around 60 tonnes.

‘There was heavy weather on the Westfjords grounds when we sailed, so we had to stick with fishing off the south coast. We started on the Mountains in the hope of fishing some saithe. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much to be had. That wasn’t a surprise as we have neap tides at the moment. Saithe don’t tend to show up under these conditions,’ he said.

The next place to try was the Skerja Deeps.

‘We had some deep redfish, but the saithe catch was slim. Overall, the catch was a mix of species, and the largest volume was probably golden redfish,’ Eiríkur Jónsson said.

Akurey is now heading for the slipway for routine maintenance, and for the main engine to be overhauled.
