HB Grandi invites EU Fisheries Committee to lunch

For the last few days a delegation from the European Union Fisheries Committee has been enjoying an official visit to Iceland. Committee members visited HB Grandi’s processing plant at Nordurgardur in Reykjavík yesterday, met the company’s management team and watched fish processing taking place before taking their places for lunch at HB Grandi’s invitation, in which the company’s
products took pride of place on the menu.

The 20-strong party arrived in Iceland on Sunday and their schedule includes visits to the Marine Research Institute, the Directorate of Fisheries, the Icelandic Federation of Fishing Vessel Owners, the National Association of Small Boat Owners and the Coast Guard. The delegation also had meetings with the Parliamentary fisheries and agriculture committee in the Parliament building and also visited the Ministry itself. The schedule finishes with a visit to the Marine Research Institute’s aquaculture research facility at Stadur in Grindavík today.

According to HB Grandi’s managing director Eggert Benedikt Gudmundsson, the visitors showed a great deal of interest in the company’s activities. He introduced them to the company and showed them the processing facilities, along with marketing director Svavar Svavarsson and production director Torfi Th. Thorsteinsson. At midday the delegation was invited to lunch in HB Grandi’s staff cafeteria with the company’s workforce. Among the items on the menu were hot-smoked cod, redfish wrapped in Parma ham, pan-fried redfish in lobster sauce, deep-fried saithe in a chilli sauce, salted saithe with tomatoes and olives and saltfish salad.
