Vopnafjördur ships out 4300 tonnes
HB Grandi’s Vopnafjördur factory has been a busy place over the last few day. In addition to regular landings by the company’s pelagic vessels, both the factory and the fishmeal plant have been shipping out products. A total of 4300 tonnes of products with a fob value of ISK 850 million have been taken out of storage for shipping in the last week.
Fishing on mackerel and production ashore have gone very well recently and 8300 tonnes, approximately half of the company’s 15,600 tonnes quota, has already been caught.
According to Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, head of department at HB Grandi’s pelagic division, overseas buyers waited until the second half of July before placing their orders, as they have the two preceding years, but sales are moving now, as demonstrated by the rapid shipments taking place at Vopnafjördur.
Reefer vessel Silver Copenhagen was at Vopnafjördur at the beginning of the week to load 1400 tonnes of frozen products on Monday and Tuesday. Yesterday Silver Bergen was alongside for a further 1200 tonnes of frozen products, while today it was the turn of Havsand to dock for 1200 tonnes of fishmeal and tomorrow Silver Ocean is due to arrive for a further 500 tonnes of frozen products.
According to Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, production of a roughly 400 tonne landing by Ingunn AK was finished yesterday. After that, the factory was cleaned from top to bottom to take delivery of another 400 tonnes of mackerel that Lundey NS was due to dock with late last night.
