IQF capacity tripled at Akranes plant
Production began at HB Grandi's Akranes fish processing plant on the 18th of August after the summer break, which was used to install a new IQF production line that triples output. According to managing director Torfi Th. Thorsteinsson, the new equipment has performed well and production has been as expected.
Akranes company Skaginn manufactured the new IQF production line. This has a production capacity of 2500kg of finished products per hour. The bulk of the plant's production is lightly salted or individually quick frozen saithe fillets, as well as production of salted and IQF cod fillets. The plant has a staff of 20.
According to Torfi Th. Thorsteinsson, products are mainly for markets in southern Europe and Brazil, with a good demand from both of these areas.
