Progress at Vopnafjördur
‘Progress is on track here. The weather is good and we are aiming to complete the steel frame construction this week. Concreting for the electrical centre should be finished next week and then we will be starting on cladding the steel frame,’ said Sveinbjörn Sigmundsson, plant manager at HB Grandi’s Vopnafjördur factory.
Work on the company’s new fishmeal plant is progressing well and the new building is giving the harbour area a new look.
The schedule is for the new factory’s cladding to be complete in October and this is being done with insulated sections in the same colour as all the other HB Grandi facilities in Vopnafjördur.
‘I expect the cladding to be a fairly quick process. Once the roof is on we can fit permanent lights that will make work a lot easier,’ he said, commenting that the intention is to have the building weatherproof before the winter weather sets in. After that, equipment can be installed, although the dryer and evaporators that were previously at the company’s Reykjavík plant have already been positioned.
A staff of 30 are working on the scheme at Vopnafjördur, of which 10 staff are from Hédinn hf and the rest are from local sub-contractors. Altogether, 50 people are expected to work on the project, which is scheduled to be close to completion by the end of the year.
