Four of HB Grandi’s trawlers on deep sea redfish

Four of the company’s factory trawlers have been fishing on deep sea redfish recently. Helga María docked on Tuesday this week to land catches, while Venus, Therney and Örfirisey are still on fishing grounds. HB Grandi’s fifth factory vessel, Höfrungur III, is fishing in home waters and has been concentrating on Greenland halibut in May.

‘We’ll have finished landing Helga María’s catch today and the ship will be going back to sea tonight. We’re fairly satisfied with the fishing on deep sea redfish for the moment, but it’s important to keep on top of things while the fish are there as the fishing can always drop off without warning at any time,’ HB Grandi’s manager of vessel operations, Birkir Hrannar Hjálmarsson said yesterday.

He commented that the company’s fresher trawlers have also been doing well.

‘Only two of the three fresher trawlers, Ásbjörn and Ottó N Thorláksson, are fishing at the moment as Sturlaugur H Bödvarsson has been in dry dock and will be ready for sea again in mid-June. The increase in cod quota that was allocated last winter, has really made a difference to the way this ship operates as the saithe fishing this last winter hasn’t been as good as usual. The cod that the fresher trawlers land is all processed at the company’s production plant in Akranes.
