Busy in Brussels

The European Seafood Exhibition (ESE) and Seafood Processing Europe (SPE) opened in Brussels yesterday morning. HB Grandi is one of 26 Icelandic companies taking part to present its products at the exhibition and according to HB Grandi’s marketing manager Svavar Svavarsson, they had a busy first day.

‘We didn’t really know what to expect, as we had heard that there had been a number of cancellations due to the effects of the Eyjafjallajökull eruption on air travel. These appear to be mostly cancellations by people travelling from the Far East, but in spite of this, the attendance has been very good on the first day.’ He said and added that this year they decided to invite master chef Thórdur Thrastarson, owner of the Galito restaurant in Akranes, to look after catering on HB Grandi’s stand. Visitors have been offered a variety of dishes that are all based on cod, redfish and saithe.

‘There were certainly popular and visitors made quick work of Thórdur’s exhibition snacks,’ Svavar Svavarsson said.

The Icelandic Export Council has organised the participation of Icelandic companies in the European Seafood Exhibition. All of the Icelandic companies are in the same area and this is the eighteenth time that there is an Icelandic national stand at the world’s largest annual seafood exhibition.
