Helga María welcomed home
Helga María AK docked in Reykjavík yesterday morning after a six-day trip from Gdansk in Poland where this former factory freezer trawler has been converted to operate as a fresher trawler.
Skipper Eiríkur Ragnarsson and his crew were welcomed as they arrived in Reykjavík, where Torfi Thorsteinsson, director of groundfish operation , and Loftur Bjarni Gíslason, fleet manager in charge of the fresher trawlers, presented them with a celebratory cake iced with a picture of the ship.
Work started today on installing the new processing deck on board Helga María and according to Loftur Bjarni Gíslason this is expected to take around a month. If everything goes according to plan, Helga María should be back fishing early in the new year.
