Akurey fishing off the north coast
Fresher trawler Akurey is now fishing on the Skagagrunn grounds, with the catch due to be landed in Sauðárkrókur this night. This is a short trip for Akurey, after its previous landing in Grundarfjörður at the beginning of the week.
‘In terms of catch rates, it has been a good summer. We have been on Westfjords grounds and have fished very well. Now catches off the Westfjords seem to be declining rapidly, at least for the moment, so that’s why we’ve decided to try fishing areas off Skagafjörður,’ said skipper Eiríkur Jónsson, who is now taking a quick break while Magnús Kristjánsson takes over as relief skipper.
‘I understand that catches have been slow for this trip so far. We’ve been there off the north coast for the last two trips and have every expectation that fishing is going to pick up,’ said Eiríkur Jónsson, who will be back in the wheelhouse for the next trip.
