Fine fishing for redfish in the dead of winter
‘We have been fishing on the Mountains south-west of Reykjanes. Fishing for redfish has been excellent, considering it’s the dead of winter, plus we had some saithe with it. The redfish are very good, but the saithe are mixed sizes,‘ said Friðleifur Einarsson, skipper of Brim’s fresher trawler Helga María, when we spoke to him this morning.
Helga María docked in Reykjavík Yesterday with 115 tonnes on board.
Brim’s fresher trawlers have not been fishing south-west of Iceland for a while, apart from Helga María’s two days on those grounds in the previous trip. According to Friðleifur Einarsson, the state of the golden redfish on the Mountains is very good, but saithe are scarcer.
‘We’ll manage one more trip before Christmas and aim to be going Wednesday as soon as the fish has been landed, sailing at 1400,’ he said.
