Good trip for Engey
‘This was a fine trip, with good fishing and the weather as good as it gets at this time of year. We were three and a half days fishing for 180 to 190 tonnes gutted weight of fish,’ said Engey’s skipper Friðleifur Einarsson as he docked ahead of schedule due to excellent catch rates.
‘We started fishing on the Mountains, where we had some golden redfish and found some saithe so we were able to catch the factory’s allocation,’ he said, adding that from there they shifted to the Eldey grounds.
‘There we were getting mainly cod and some golden redfish with it. We ended up on the Selvogur Bank on mostly cod and haddock.’
According to Friðleifur Einarsson, there are healthy amounts of fish on south-western fishing grounds.
‘But there’s also plenty of movement and nothing’s certain. That applies especially to saithe. You can never be sure where they are. Sometime you’ll see next to nothing, and on other days you can find them and there can be some heavy fishing,’ he said.
