Freezing top-quality capelin at Vopnafjörður
Production of frozen capelin began at HB Grandi’s Vopnafjörður factory on the 14th of January. According to the factory manager, Magnús Róbertsson, Venus landed the first capelin for freezing and since then capelin has been frozen from both Venus and Víkingur.
‘This is large, excellent quality capelin, and most of it has gone into the 30 to 40 pieces per kilo grade. Now I hear from the skippers that we can expect even bigger capelin and we’re looking forward to seeing the fish when we start landing Víkingur’s fish later today,’ he said, and as we spoke to him yesterday, production of Venus’s last landing was about to be finished, while Víkingur was already alongside and waiting to start pumping its fish ashore.
‘Production has been going at full speed, apart from the occasional breaks in the raw material supply that are down to the recent changeable weather. There’s some poor weather right now, and the forecast for this evening and tonight isn’t good up here in the north-east corner,’ Magnús Róbertsson said.
