Ásbjörn sold to Iran
An agreement to sell wetfish trawler Ásbjörn to an Iranian fishing company has been reached and the trawler will be handed over to its new owners next week.
According to HB Grandi CEO Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, the sale price is US$450,000, equivalent to ISK45 million, and the payment will be complete before the handover.
HB Grandi’s Chief Financial Officer Jónas Guðbjörnsson said that the final delivery date has not been confirmed, and the Iranian buyer intends to use Ásbjörn for demersal trawling with catches frozen on board.
Ásbjörn has served HB Grandi and its predecessors well. The 620gt trawler was built at Flekkefjord in Norway in 1978, making it 40 years old next year. It is replaced by the new Engey. At Engey’s launch reception, Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson commented on what a successful trawler Ásbjörn has been, having landed approximately 230,000 tonnes of fish with a total catch value of ISK40 billion at today’s values.
It should be kept in mind that during the Seamen’s Day weekend the documentary film made by Björgvin Helgi Möller Pálsson about Ásbjörn will be shown. The film will be shown in Kaldalón in the Harpa Conference Hall and Concert Centre on Saturday. Screenings are at 1400, 1500 and 1600 on Saturday, and at 1200, 1300, 1400 and 1500 on Sunday. Admission is free.
