Discussion on climate change in the Marshall building
Hafið – Icelandic Center of Excellence for Sustainable Use and Conservation of the Ocean, hosted an open meeting on climate change today to discuss the challenges and opportunities in the fishing industry. HB Grandi is an associate member of Hafið. The event was held at the Marshall building, owned by HB Grandi, which was recently reopened as a new arts centre and a restaurant. Several representatives attended from HB Grandi as well as a number of other interested parties from companies and organizations.
Björt Ólafsdóttir – Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources held the opening speech, other speakers were Gísli Gíslason, Harbour Master at Associated Icelandic Ports (Faxaflóahafnir), Jón Ágúst Þorsteinsson, Chairman of the Board at Hafið, Hörður Arnarson, CEO of National Power Company of Iceland (Landsvirkjun) and Hallveig Ólafsdóttir, Economist at Fisheries Iceland as well as Sigríður Ragna Sigurðardóttir, General Manager at Hafið.
„There has been a significant progress on reduction of environmental impact within the fishing industry. There is a constant surge of opportunities with new technology and increased cooperation between relevant parties. It is important that the fishing industry and stakeholders contribute to reducing impact on climate change,“ said Svavar Svavarsson Director of Business Development at HB Grandi.
