During the 2016 Easter season, HB Grandi has sold four times more fresh, boneless redfish products than in the same period in 2015, and according to Sólveig Arna Jóhannesdóttir, Sales Manager for Fresh Groundfish, the reason may very well be that now, people preparing food at home do not have time to spend trimming their redfish before cooking. “People don’t necessarily have the know-how, or time, to trim redfish properly before cooking. We are very happy that we can now provide a convenient ready-to-cook product that meets the needs of end consumers.”

Cooperation to create value

HB Grandi and Valka have had a fruitful collaboration for a number of years. HB Grandi´s boneless redfish products are cut and trimmed in Valka’s X-Ray cutter, which enables HB Grandi to process boneless redfish products fast and efficiently. The cutter uses a combination of X-rays and 3D image processing, together with robot-controlled water jets, to identify bones for each fillet and make a custom cutting pattern.

Indeed, HB Grandi’s investment in innovation has paid off. “Without the cutting machine, we would not be able to meet growing demand and serve our good customers”, says Sólveig.
