Víkingur well on the way home
‘We’ve been making good progress. The wind has been behind us all the way so far and we have been making 13.50 to 14 knots. Barring unforeseen problems, we expect to be in port at Akranes next weekend,’ said Albert Sveinsson, skipper of Víkingur AK, which is now on its delivery trip from the yard in Turkey where the ship was built. There is a crew of seven on board.
‘We sailed from Tuzla on the evening of the 5th of December and on Friday we passed through the Straits of Gibraltar and into the Atlantic. The course is set on Land’s End, the south-western tip of England and from there we’ll steam west of Ireland on the way to Akranes,’ he said.
